spilleHOLLE is an original story inspired by Germanic pagan characters. Our movement-based play is set in Bavaria, late 1700’s, and follows the toxic maternal relationship between Perchta and Spilleholle, and how cyclical abuse and isolation can create a monster. Like the constant rotations of our authentic 1800’s spinning wheel, which serves as the centrepiece to the play, Spilleholle always returns to her mother, for better or for worse, and is slowly crushed by the wheel.

PROJECT HISTORY

A 10-minute version of spilleHOLLE originally premiered at the Grand River Arts Festival's 10-minute Play Competition. It won First Place, and we have been invited to premiere the full length version of the play at next year's festival. spilleHOLLE has received funding from the Ontario Arts Council, as recommended by Nightswimming.
